The Grandest Canyon Ever

I SAW THE GRAND CANYON! And I not only saw it, I flew through it. In a helicopter. MOST AWESOME THING I'VE EVER DONE. But let me start from the beginning.

I booked a tour from Mesa to the Grand Canyon with stops in the Sedona National Park and the Navajo Indian Reservation, and with a 50 minute helicopter ride through the canyon (and lunch). We were a small group of 10 people and our tour guide was just adorable. He took pictures and knew an awful lot about... well, everything. The whole day way a lot of fun, getting to know the other tourists and seeing so much in one day turned out to be a long day.

We started off in Mesa where I was the first one to be picked up, and after everyone was on the bus we made our way to Sedona National Park. Arriving there we unfortunately only had 20 minutes to spend there, which was just enough to buy a few postcards and prickly pear popcorn. It's pink. Back on the bus, eating our gourmet sandwiches for lunch, we still see a lot of the park by driving through. The first thing at arriving at Grand Canyon was me getting off at the airport, and waiting for my pilot to arrive. Including me and the pilot there were 7 people on the helicopter, and I got to sit in the back next to the window. First we flew over the rim about 50 feet over the trees, and the next second you just hear gasping, because the canyon is suddenly unfolding underneath us. We were all wearing headsets and I bought a dvd of the flight, they recorded our voices and had a camera at the front of the helicopter. After that I reunited with the rest of the group and we went to some of the view points and took photos. The way back was pretty uneventful, except for the short stop in the indian reservation. Resume: Amazing day I'm never going to forget.

It was worth every single cent I paid for it. Here's my impressions:

ICH HABE DEN GRAND CANYON GESEHEN! Und ich habe ihn nicht nur gesehen, ich bin durch geflogen. In einem Hubschrauber. BESTE SACHE DIE ICH JEMALS GEMACHT HAB. Aber lasst mich von Anfang an erzählen.

Ich habe eine Tour gebucht, die mich von Mesa zum Grand Canyon bringen würde mit Stops im Sedona National Park und dem Navajo Indianer Reservat, und einem 50 minütigem Hubschrauberflug durch den Canyon (und Mittagessen). Wir waren eine kleine Gruppe mit 10 Leuten  und unser Fremdenführer war einfach super. Er hat Fotos von uns gemacht und konnte uns soviel erzählen, über... im Prinzip alles. Der ganze Tag war echt der Wahnsinn, ich habe alle aus unserer kleinen Gruppe besser kennen gelernt und habe so viel in einem Tag gesehen, so dass es ein echt langer wurde. 

Wir sind in Mesa losgefahren, wo ich die erste war die abgeholt wurde, und nachdem jeder im Bus war haben wir uns auf den Weg nach Sedona gemacht. Als wir da waren hatten wir leider nur 20 Minuten, die gerade mal genug waren und ein paar Postkarten und Stachelbeerpopcorn zu kaufen. Es ist pink. Zurück im Bus haben wir unsere Gourmet Sandwiches gegessen und sogar noch ein bisschen vom Park beim Durchfahren gesehen. Das erste was anstand als wir beim Grand Canyon ankamen, war mich beim Flughafen abzuliefern, um auf meinen Piloten zu warten. Mit mir und ihm waren wir 7 Leute in dem Hubschrauber, und ich habe hinten neben dem Fenster gesessen. Zuerst sind wir über den Rand geflogen, circa 30 Meter über den Bäumen, und auf einmal hört man nur noch scharfes Einatmen, weil sich plötzlich der Canyon unter uns ausbreitet. Wir hatten alle Headsets an und ich habe eine DVD vom Flug gekauft, die unsere Gespräche und ein Video von der Kamera vorne am Hubschrauber beinhaltet. Danach gings zurück zur Gruppe, und wir sind noch zu ein paar anderen Aussichtspunkten gefahren und haben Fotos gemacht. Der Weg zurück nach Mesa war ziemlich unspektakulär, bis auf den kurzen Stop im Indianerreservat. Zusammenfassung: Unglaublicher Tag, den ich nie vergessen werde.

Es war jeden einzelnen Cent wert den ich bezahlt habe.
